While on a silk buying trip in India for their business in California, Elizabeth Shepard mysteriously disappears. Her sister Christine challenges the ineffectual U.S. and Indian bureacracies and ventures alone into the Islamic world to find her. Her search takes her into Afghanistan, Pakistan, the mysterious tribes of the Pashtuns, and a dangerous encounter with the Taliban.
